1st Week of Recovery

The ACL Reconstruction Surgery was successfully done on a Saturday afternoon on 17 Sept 2011.

Jas has to wear a tube bandage on his right leg and constantly hooked up to an ice machine to keep the swelling down.

During his 2 days' stay at the hospital, he has to use a CPM machine to move his knee joint.

He was taking 3 types of painkillers during the stay at the hospital.

His right leg especially the knee area is quite swollen and looked rounded in comparison to the other knee.

Keyhole surgery so there are 4 cuts made to the knee area only.

Timeline of events

Sat 10 Sep - Jas came home with a bandaged knee but no pain or swelling but felt the knee slipping forward and not stable.

Sun 11 Sep - Took Jas to see a GP and was referred to see an Orthopaedic.

Tue 13 Sep - Saw the Orthpaedic and went for MRI scan.

Wed 14 Sep - Reviewed MRI scan results and agreed to have surgery on Thu or Sat but no stock of the tendon available so propsed to schedule it for last week of Sep which was not acceptable for us!

Thu 15 Sep - Saw another Orthopaedic that was treating my left knee with OA. Surgery was scheduled for coming Sat.

Sat 17 Sep - Jason had his right knee ACL reconstruction surgery done in the afternoon.

Tue 20 Sep - Jason discharged from hospital with crutches and rented CPM machine for a week. Also, was given 2 packs of ice gel to manage the swelling.

Sat 24 Sep - Stitches removed at Dr clinic.

Tue 27 Sep - Started physiotherapy; twice a week.

4 - 7 Oct - Flew to Penang to visit grandparents.

Sat 8 Oct - Jason started to use one crutch only.

Tue 11 Oct - Jason started to walk without any crutch.

Sat 15 Oct - Bought a knee support to stabilise his knee as Jason has to walk up a slope in his school, starting on Mon.

Sat 22 Oct - Dr reviewed progress and Jas is recovering well; continue with physiotherapy session twice weekly for the next 2 months.

Sat 17 Dec 2011 - Dr reviewed progress and recovery is on track; continue with physiotherapy sessions twice weekly.

Mon 1 Oct 2012 - One year later, Dr reviewed progress and has discharged Jas under his care. Jas will be returning to his sporting activities though he has already been kicking the soccer ball and jogging as part of his physiotherapy programme.
